Ingredients
-
1 lb ground beef
-
1 tablespoon olive oil
-
1 small onion, finely diced
-
3 cloves garlic, minced
-
1 teaspoon paprika
-
½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
-
Salt and black pepper, to taste
-
1 cup orzo pasta
-
2½ cups beef broth
-
½ cup heavy cream
-
½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
-
¼ cup cream cheese, softened
-
Optional: ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
-
Optional garnish: fresh parsley or basil, chopped
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet or sauté pan over medium heat.
- Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain excess grease if needed.
- Stir in the onion and cook for 2–3 minutes until softened. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Season with paprika, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if using.
- Add the orzo and beef broth. Stir well and bring to a gentle simmer.
- Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and cook for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the orzo is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed.
- Stir in the heavy cream, cream cheese, and Parmesan. Cook for 2–3 minutes until the sauce is smooth and creamy.
- Taste and adjust seasoning. Garnish with fresh herbs and serve warm.
Notes
- For extra flavor, substitute half the broth with milk or add a splash of white wine before the broth.
- Swap ground beef with ground turkey or sausage if desired.
- Add veggies like spinach, mushrooms, or sun-dried tomatoes for a boost.
- If the orzo thickens too much, stir in a little extra broth or cream before serving.
